Hello, I’m Bill. I started racing in 1985 in the midst of the Greg Lemond era. Looking for a sport to replace my beloved baseball, I began training for triathlons. When my hometown bike shop in Brunswick, Maine put on a bike race in May of that year, I participated and was hooked. I have over 25 years of bicycle racing experience with over 1,000 career starts. I am an accomplished Master level racer, and directed my own team, PTS Racing LLC, based in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
I started coaching in 2006, and hold a USA Cycling Level 1 (Elite) Coaching Certification, am Certified in Power Training, a Level 1 USA Track Coaching Certification, and have been an American Council on Exercise certified personal trainer. I am a 2017 PowerTap Local Coach and was a 2016 PowerTap Grassroots Athlete.
Studying cyclist power files and performance led me to identify bike fit issues that were holding athletes back. All the coaching and training in the world wont result in the desired achievements if the cyclist is not well positioned to use their muscles and fitness on the bike. Bike fit is the key to unlock the performance potential in a well trained cyclist, hence I started delving into bike fitting with greater curiosity.
I enjoy working with cyclists of any level but am especially motivated by those who are competing, and who want to optimize their performance.
Notable Achievements
Hello, my name is John Higgins. I have been cycling for 50+ years (I’m older than you think, but not ancient) and have direct experience with many different styles of bikes and riding including road, mountain and touring bikes. I’ve been a regular bike commuter, a bikepacker and gravel grinder before they were a thing, and competitive racer on both road and mountain bikes.
However being an experienced and accomplished cyclist does not make one a bike fitter. I was curious about the mysteries of bike fitting and jumped at an opportunity to commence learning about bike fitting in 2007 while working for a major bicycle retail chain.
Since then I have worked with thousands of riders, from teenagers to retirees, casual riders to competitors, commuters, tourers, bikepackers, racers (road, mountain, triathlon), and people with chronic neck, back and joint issues and injury history. These cyclists are people who wanted to know what size bike to buy; wanted to ride but experienced too much discomfort; wanted to ride further / faster with less suffering; or just wanted to make sure their bike was optimized from the get-go.
In 2014 I established BikeFitr and in 2015 I became a co-owner and the manager of Fit Kit Systems, the bike fitting school that I originally trained with. I now supply fitting equipment, systems, and education to other bike fitters and bicycle retailers around the globe.
As a member of the International Bike Fitting Institute I am committed to continuing to increase my bike fitting skills and maintain a high level of professional expertise. There are a lot of bike fitters touting their experience, but experience without ongoing education is just repetition. I continually refine and develop my experience through learning more.
International Bike Fitting Institute Level 3 certified.

You can find many of my articles on fit related topics over on the Fit Kit Systems blog.
For quite a few years I was a regular contributor to Cycling West, the regions #1 publication on all things bicycle, and have been an invited presenter on bike fit at bike industry tradeshows: Interbike (2017, 2018) and CABDA (2016, 2019). I’ve also presented at International bike fit conferences in Columbia (2025) and the UK (2026)
I also teach bike fitting to other people, through Fit Kit Systems.
